Jesus asked his disciples “who do you say that I Am?”
This most important question is concerning the true identity, the Me or the I, the true identity of Jesus.
Who do you say that I Am?
Roles vs Identity – Body prepared for Me
In Hebrews 10:5, Jesus had said that his body, the Son of Humanity Role, had been prepared for “Me” – his True Identity.
Jesus was enquiring of his disciples, what do you say about the ‘Me’ who was executing that Role.
What do you say about the “I Am,” the true identity that was wearing the role of the Son of Humanity?
You are the Chosen Son
Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Simon’s statement came from a realization of Jesus’ true identity, “you are the anointed, chosen, appointed one, the Son of the Living God, the offspring of the living mighty one.”
True Identity has been spoken by the God of Heaven
How did Peter make this astounding declaration? Was it something about Jesus? Or was it something more?
Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven!”
According to Jesus, his True Identity, who he really was, had been revealed, or spoken from the mouth of, the Heavenly Father.
So, we can say that man’s opinion of us is not our true identity. That is just their perception of the roles we have been given.
However, it is only the Father in Heaven who can inform us concerning our True identity.
Discover your Roles and your True Identity
In our search for our true identity, we need to ask the following questions,
- Who do men say that I Am? This gives us an idea of our roles.
- Who does the Father say I Am? This is the revelation of our True Identity.
